Classics for Bass Clarinet
Vol. 1 SONATAS
A Collection of Transcriptions
Having experienced the difficulty of finding original works for bass clarinet, whether for recitals, auditions or competitions, I decided to compile a collection of a variety of works, of varying styles and levels of difficulty, originally written for other
instruments (often bassoon or cello) but that are well-adapted to bass clarinet performance.
This volume includes only the solo part, transposed in Bb and written in treble clef.
These parts may be played with the corresponding piano accompaniments. I havebrespected the original text as faithfully as possible.nOn several occasions, chords written for a string instrument have been transformed, replaced either by an
arpeggio or the the most "important" note of the harmony. Otherwise, the keys, articulations, registers and dynamics are faithful to the original text, except for the breathing indications, which I added when necessary.
This collection will appeal to musicians loooking for a rich offering of 19th and 20th century chamber music for clarinet bass and piano.
Since all bass clarinettists play the basset horn I have also included a transcription of the Sonata by Glinka for viola and piano. Perhaps this may slightly compensate the neglect of this wonderful instrument by so many great composers.
