Examination pieces for the Conservatoire from 1881 to 1963 (vol. 2)
In this second CD of this series, the players continue to explore some of the jewels of French repertoire for clarinet and piano, after a first CD in 2009 with works written between 1898 and 1954, Messager, Widor, Rabaud, Gallois-Montbrun, Rueff and Tomasi.
Our second musical promenade will be extended - from 1881 to 1963 in chronological order - with Chausson, Debussy, Gaubert, Bozza, Revel, Hubeau and Sancan; and as a"bonus" (a world Premiere!) the beginning of Jean Francaix's Concerto (1968), thanks to a recently discovered fragment of the piano manuscript version from the composer's hand himself.
It still seems amazing to explain to a music lover that in the twentieth century, France has probably given rise to so many composers particularly in the field of wind instruments. Paradox of this country which sees his French School of woodwinds getting a worldwide recognition, but does not provide many opportunities to listen to it live, especially in works by French composers. The year 2012 celebrates the 150th and 100th birth anniversaries of Debussy and Françaix respectively; but who has listened to works by Jean Françaix, yet one of the most performed French composers in the world?
