Impressionist?
Each of these studies, well known to the oboists, is prefaced with a picture from the famous
impressionist movement. Like in those masterpieces, there is no academism to be found in
the writing. This music abounds with momentary impressions, mixing resonant bubblings
with bright touches, "espagnolades" and ragbag of birds songs. Gilles Silvestrini has
wonderfully managed to recouncile poetry with technical difficulties throughout his
concert studies.
